Dieseltech repairs a wide range of diesel trucks and equipment, including diesel pickups, box trucks, flat-decks, city tractors, highway tractors, and 18-wheelers. We also service trailers and Merlo telehandlers.

2. Do you work on pickup trucks, semi-trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment?

Yes. We work on medium- and heavy-duty commercial trucks, trailers, and specialized equipment like Merlo telehandlers. For diesel pickup trucks and forklifts, we offer select repair and maintenance services. Because we don't cover every single service for smaller pickups or specialized material handling equipment, the best approach is to give us a call with your vehicle's specific symptoms or needs. Our team will let you know right away if we can handle the job or guide you toward the best solution.

3. Can Dieseltech service both owner-operators and large commercial fleets?

Absolutely. We work with everyone from independent owner-operators to large commercial fleets, including moving companies, long-haul trucking services, truck dealerships, and heavy industrial companies. Our fleet maintenance program can handle fleets ranging from 10 to 100 trucks.

4. Do I need an appointment for diesel truck repairs, or do you accept walk-ins?

Our shop is located at 1650 Hartley Ave in Coquitlam, and our mobile service covers the entire Lower Mainland. This includes Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Surrey, South Surrey, White Rock, Delta, Langley, Aldergrove, Maple Ridge, Port Coquitlam, New Westminster, Abbotsford, Squamish, and everywhere in between.

6. Do you offer after-hours diesel truck repair services?

Yes. Our shop is open long hours Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On top of that, our mobile roadside repair service runs 24/7, so help is available even outside regular shop hours.

7. Can you help if my truck breaks down outside regular business hours?

Yes, we offer 24/7 mobile and roadside repair services, so if a breakdown occurs at 2 a.m., we can service you then. Our nine mobile repair trucks are stocked and ready around the clock to get you back on the road.

8. What types of repairs can your mobile diesel mechanics perform onsite?

Our mobile mechanics can handle a wide range of repairs on the spot, including battery jump-starts, no-start diagnostics, coolant leaks, air system and brake repairs, and tailgate or railgate repairs. Each of our nine mobile repair trucks is fully stocked to handle both major and minor issues right where you are.

11. How far will Dieseltech travel for on-site truck repairs?

Our mobile repair service covers the entire Lower Mainland, from Squamish down to Abbotsford, and everything in between. If you're stranded outside of this area, we also partner with other truck repair shops so your truck can still get the help it needs.

12. Can your mobile mechanics diagnose engine problems at my job site?

Yes. Our mobile repair trucks carry diagnostic tools that can identify issues like no-start problems, electrical faults, and check engine light codes right at your job site or roadside location. 

13. Do you provide roadside diesel repair for semi-trucks / heavy-duty trucks on highways?

Yes, Dieseltech offers 24/7 mobile repair services for semi-trucks and commercial vehicles across Metro Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Because the safety of our technicians and your driver is our top priority, the broken-down vehicle must be pulled over in a safe, secure location (such as a wide shoulder, pull-off, or rest area) before our team can perform repairs on site.

14. What should I do before calling for roadside truck repair service?

Before you call, try to note your exact location, including the highway, mile marker, or nearest cross street, so we can find where you’re located quickly. It also helps to have a general idea of the issue, such as a warning light, unusual noise, or the truck simply not starting. On the phone, give us some context as to what is going on, so our team can prepare the right tools and parts.

15. Can you repair hydraulic or PTO system issues onsite?

Yes. Our mechanics can handle hydraulic repairs, including on tailgates and railgates, and can even make custom hydraulic hoses in-house to save you time. If you're dealing with a hydraulic or PTO issue, give us a call, and we'll send one of our mobile repair trucks to assess the problem.

16. Do you offer emergency mobile diesel mechanic services for fleets?

Yes. Dieseltech offers 24/7 emergency mobile repair services for fleets of all sizes, from small operations to large commercial fleets with up to 100 trucks. Our goal is to minimize downtime and get your fleet's vehicles back on schedule as fast as possible.

17. Can your mobile diesel mechanics perform battery boosts and replacements?

Yes. If your truck won't start because of a dead battery, our mobile mechanics can perform a battery jump-start right on the spot. Call our 24/7 roadside assistance line and a mobile repair truck will be sent to get your battery back to life.

18. What is included in your fleet maintenance programs?
    Our fleet maintenance programs are tailored to fit your specific operational needs, usage, and budget. Dieseltech tracks your fleet’s service intervals and sends you monthly reminders for upcoming routine maintenance. This proactive approach helps prevent unexpected breakdowns, keeps your vehicles compliant with safety standards, and ensures your fleet stays reliably on the road.
19. Can Dieseltech create custom maintenance schedules for commercial fleets?

20. How often should heavy-duty fleet trucks be serviced?

Service frequency depends on the vehicle's weight and use, but as a general guide, most commercial trucks and truck tractors in BC need a government inspection once a year, while heavier trucks over 17,301 kg and logging trucks need one twice a year. Beyond mandatory inspections, we recommend regular preventative maintenance, like oil changes and system checks, to catch small issues before they become costly repairs.

21. Can preventative fleet maintenance help reduce roadside breakdowns?

Absolutely. Regular preventative maintenance catches minor issues before they turn into major repairs. Regular preventative maintenance also keeps your vehicles operational and productive, and improves safety for your drivers and everyone else on the road. It also gets your fleet inspection-ready, which helps you avoid infractions and unexpected downtime. 22. Do you provide fleet inspections and service records for compliance tracking?

Yes. As a designated CVSE inspection facility, we handle licensing and regulatory compliance and service records for your fleet.

23. Can you service fleets during evenings or weekends to reduce downtime?

Yes. Our shop is open until midnight Monday through Friday and until 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays, and our mobile fleet repair service runs 24/7. 

24. Do you offer onsite fleet maintenance at our yard or job site?

Yes. We offer mobile fleet repair that services your company's trucks and trailers right at your location or on the road, using our nine fully equipped mobile repair trucks. We also offer a shuttle service to pick up, repair, and deliver your truck or trailer back to you if an on-site repair isn't possible.

25. What industries do you commonly provide fleet maintenance for?

We work with a wide variety of industries, including moving companies, long-haul trucking services, intercity delivery companies and the movie rental industry. We also service specialized equipment like Merlo telehandlers and have experience working with the film industry on custom and unique vehicles. Basically, if you own a business that has a fleet of trucks or trailers, we can repair them!

26. What are the most common diesel truck problems you repair?

Common issues we see include brake problems, suspension and driveline wear, electrical faults, engine performance loss, and cooling system failures. We also handle a lot of general maintenance items, such as oil changes, valve sets, clutch and brake adjustments, and 60-point inspections as preventive maintenance.

27. What are the warning signs of diesel engine failure?

Watch for strange noises like knocking, ticking, or grinding, along with reduced power, sluggish acceleration, or poor fuel efficiency. Other red flags include an illuminated check engine light, excessive black, white, or blue exhaust smoke, rising engine temperatures, and any oil, coolant, or fuel leaks. If you notice any of these signs, it's best to get your truck checked ASAP.

28. Can Dieseltech diagnose intermittent electrical problems in trucks?

Yes. Our technicians use advanced electrical diagnostics and testing equipment to track down intermittent electrical issues, which can be some of the trickiest problems to pin down. We can diagnose them in our shop or on-site through our mobile service.

29. Do you repair DEF system and emissions-related issues?

Yes. As part of our diesel engine inspections and repairs, our technicians assess emissions components and fuel systems. Give us a call to discuss your specific DEF or emissions concern so we can get your truck back in compliance.

30. Can you rebuild diesel engines or only replace them?

We do both. When major internal damage or high mileage affects performance, we can perform a complete engine rebuild, which involves full disassembly, inspection, machining, and replacing worn components like pistons, bearings, seals, and gaskets to restore the engine to OEM specifications. In many cases, a rebuild is more cost-effective than a full engine replacement, but we'll walk you through the best option for your truck.

31. Do you repair transmissions, clutches, and drivelines on heavy-duty trucks?

We handle transmission repair and replacement, transmission rebuilds, clutch adjustments, and driveline repairs as part of our full range of heavy-duty truck services. Our technicians are trained and certified to work on these systems for all major truck makes and models.

32. Can you repair air brake systems and suspension problems?

Yes. We provide air brake system maintenance, including air compressors, valves, chambers, slack adjusters, and airlines, as well as hydraulic systems, disc brakes, and drum brakes. We also handle suspension repairs and wheel alignments, using a Hunter Engineering alignment rack programmed with OEM specifications for all major truck and trailer makes.

33. What causes repeated overheating issues in diesel trucks?

Rising engine temperatures usually come from cooling system failures, low coolant, stuck thermostats, clogged radiators, or internal engine damage. If overheating keeps happening, it's worth having our technicians inspect the cooling system, hoses, and belts, and check for any underlying issues that could be putting extra strain on the engine.

34. What is included in a CVIP inspection?

In BC, this is called a Commercial Vehicle Inspection (CVI). It checks the vehicle body and frame, headlights, electrical system, tires and wheels, steering, brakes, powertrain, fuel system for leaks, and vehicle weight. Our mechanics are qualified by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement (CVSE) branch of the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to carry out these inspections.

35. How often does a commercial truck need a CVIP inspection in BC?

It depends on the vehicle's registered weight. Trucks and truck tractors between 8,201 kg and 17,300 kg need an inspection once a year, while trucks 17,301 kg and over, along with logging trucks over 8,201 kg, need one twice a year. Other vehicle types, like emergency vehicles and farm vehicles over 17,301 kg, also require annual inspections.

36. Can Dieseltech perform CVIP inspections for trailers and fleet vehicles?

Yes. We're a Designated Inspection Facility, meaning we're licensed to perform inspections on any commercial vehicle. This includes commercial trailers, which generally need an annual inspection, though dump trailers and logging trailers require inspection twice a year.

37. What happens if my truck fails a CVIP inspection?

If your vehicle fails, our technicians can make the necessary repairs to ensure it meets provincial safety standards. Common reasons for failure include vehicle lighting systems and reflectors, exhaust systems, steering and suspension systems, along with brakes and body damage. We can fix these issues right at our Coquitlam shop.

38. Do you offer warranty coverage on diesel truck repairs and parts?

Warranty details can vary depending on the type of repair and parts used. Parts are generally warranted for 1 year, but it can vary. For warranty questions, it’s best to ask our team directly about coverage for your specific job when you book your service. 39. Do you use OEM or aftermarket parts for repairs?

We supply and install high-quality parts from both OEM and aftermarket sources. We search for the best deal for you and your vehicle. If you prefer OEM over aftermarket, just let us know, and we will only use OEM parts when you request it. 

40. Do you use customer-supplied parts? 

We do accept customer-supplied parts on a case-by-case basis, but we strongly recommend letting us source them for you. In our experience, customer-supplied parts often result in extended downtime whether the part arrives incorrect, incomplete, or turns out to be only a portion of what actually needs replacing. Additionally, customer-supplied parts do not carry warranty. Give us a call before ordering your own parts so we can guide you on the best path forward for your repair.
